It has become common for technology vendors to offer AI strategy at no cost, as a route to the implementation contract. The logic is understandable. The result is predictable: a strategy optimized to sell what the vendor already builds.
We treat strategy as a paid professional engagement because the intellectual work is itself the value. Understanding how an organization actually operates, ranking opportunities by value, feasibility, urgency and strategic importance, and sequencing them into a roadmap with ownership and expected outcomes is where most of the risk in an AI program is removed.
A roadmap we are paid to build is a roadmap we are accountable for executing. We design it to be delivered, we stay through implementation, and we transfer the capability to the organization. That is a different product from a free deck, and it should be priced like one.
